I mentioned in one of my previous posts that we recently moved from Montreal to Toronto. It’s been over a month and I am still adjusting to our new home. The house itself is not old and although the space is nice, it doesn’t feel ours just yet. Maybe it’s the lack of our personal touches, at least I hope that this is the reason. When we just bought the house, even before we moved in I started thinking what I would like to change and renovate. Thank God for Pinterest I LOVE it and pinning the ideas to my Home Decor board is a big help. Still, we need to sort it out and decide what will work for our house and especially for our budget. My head was spinning from all kind of ideas when I came across the advertisement about the upcoming Toronto Home Show. The timing was perfect, especially I was excited about DESIGN INTERVENTION booth where you could get a 15 minutes consultation with a designer. I wanted to hear what the professional thinks about my ideas and hoped for some advice. I was also looking for some inspiration and new ideas. Like I didn’t have enough from Pinterest and Houzz
The Home show took place between October 1-4, 2015 at Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place in Toronto. The first thing I saw entering a show room was this absolutely beautiful slab of Super White quartzite. I came across this stone earlier, while visiting the stores and fell in love with it. It has soft, flowy veining and a gorgeous grey-white color that goes amazingly with the white kitchen. It looks very similar to marble, but more durable like granite. When I visited kitchen stores I noticed that the more popular countertop choices are Caesar stone or Cambria, which are not the real stones and more expensive. They definitely look nice, but I like much more the Natural stone and its unpredictable pattern. If I ever renovate my kitchen I will go with Super White quartzite. My choice here is done.
I also liked the booth with the custom made upholstery. It is been a while since I’ve been dreaming about the Upholstered bed with the big headboard. The stores have different models but it either very expensive or not exactly what I like. Checking around, I figured that custom Upholstered bed would suit me the best. You can bring the picture of the bed you like and it will cost about half the price compared to the expensive store. Not bad, right? I am going to follow up on my lead from the show.
And of course, the appointment with the designer! I made an appointment and when the time came, we were at her booth. I prepared the pictures of my house on the phone and explained what my dilemma for the family room was. To my surprise (and maybe some disappointment) she agreed with my every idea. I was so expecting that she will tell something like “No, you don’t want to do that!” and will give me a bunch of wonderful new ideas! It didn’t happen
Was I that good? She is a professional after all.
Anyway, it was our first time at the Home Show and we definitely had fun!
